From the comparison of the General Consumer Price Index (CPI) with the corresponding Index of April 2022, there was an increase of 3%, against the increase of 10.2%, which had been noted, during the corresponding comparison of the year 2022 with 2021.

The increase of General CPI by 3% came, among other things, from the increase in the index by 11.4% in the group Food and non-alcoholic beverages, mainly due to price increases in the following products: Bread and cereals, meats (general), fish (general) , dairy and eggs, oils and fats, vegetables (general), sugar-chocolate-sweets and ice-creams, coffee-cocoa-tea, mineral water-soft drinks-fruit juices and other foods. In addition, it also came from the 4% increase in the alcoholic beverages - and tobacco - group due mainly to an increase in the prices of non-served alcoholic beverages.

Also, the General CPI during April 2023, compared to March 2023, showed an increase of 0.6%, against an increase of 2.1%, which was noted during the corresponding comparison of the previous year. The increase in the General CPI by 0.6% in April 2023 reportedly came from, among other things, the decrease in the index by 0.1% in the Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages group, due to a decrease in prices mainly in: cured meats, fresh fish, dairy and eggs, fresh vegetables. It is noted that part of this reduction was offset by the increase in prices mainly in: bread and cereals, beef, olive oil, sugar-chocolates-sweets-ice creams. In addition, it also came from the decrease of 0.3% in the Alcoholic beverages and tobacco group, mainly due to a decrease in the prices of non-served alcoholic beverages. As regards the average CPI for the twelve months May 2022 - April 2023, compared to the corresponding Index for the twelve months May 2021 - April 2022, there was an increase of 8.6% compared to an increase of 4.4%, which had been noted during the corresponding comparison of the twelve months of May 2021 - April 2022 with the twelve months of May 2020 - April 2021.
