05 February 2026
Retail in Greece closed 2025 with a positive sign, according to the most recent Circana data for the Greek market. Supermarkets continue to be the main pillar of consumption, while new dynamics are emerging and influencing the way brands must design their shelf presence.
At the same time, tourism significantly boosts demand during the summer months, creating new opportunities but also increased requirements in terms of commercial execution. Particular emphasis was placed on the Greek islands, where the share of total supermarket sales reached 20% during the summer months, making the region pivotal for brands' annual performance.
Meanwhile, consumers are becoming more conscious in their choices, while neighborhood stores are developing steadily, confirming that retail is evolving and diversifying. Smaller store formats, increased shopping frequency and the need for immediate availability require brands and retailers to operate with greater precision, flexibility and deep knowledge of the point of sale.

What today's market data shows
The physical shelf remains the main point of consumer decision, especially during periods of increased traffic such as the tourist season. Geographical differences between islands, tourist areas and urban centers require different pace and approach to commercial execution. Consistent availability and a clear in-store image now function as key levers for maintaining and growing market share, while smaller stores require more frequent visits and more targeted shelf space management.
The Real Challenge: From Strategy to Execution
The real question for 2026 is not which strategy will be chosen, but how quickly and consistently it will reach the point of sale. The best positioning strategy, the strongest marketing campaign and the most attractive pricing policy lose their value if the product is not available on the shelf when the consumer is looking for it.
This is where most commercial opportunities are decided today, and this is where the real competitive advantage is ultimately shaped. In a market with positive momentum but increased geographical and seasonal fluctuations, the ability to execute flawlessly in every channel, in every region, in every format, is no longer simply desirable. It is a prerequisite for survival and growth.
